Critical Language Scholarship Program | Nationally Competitive Awards

The Critical Language Scholarship Program provides fully-funded intensive language instruction in host countries during the summer for seven to ten weeks. Students must be enrolled in a degree granting program at an accredited U.S. institution at the time of application.

	Meg Connor 2023 Meg Connor, a 2023 international studies, modern and classical languages, literatures and cultures & Lewis Honors College graduate, was accepted to the CLS (Critical Language Scholarship) Spark Program to study Arabic. CLS Spark is a virtual initiative for U.S. undergraduate students to learn languages essential to America’s engagement with the world.
	Michael Di Girolamo 2021 Foreign language and international economics and international studies major Michael Di Girolamo received a Critical Language Scholarship for summer 2021. He will study Chinese virtually through Changchun Humanities and Sciences College in Changchun, China. This is Michael's second time receiving the Critical Language Scholarship. He completed a virtual program during the fall 2020 semester, studying Chinese through Shaanxi Normal University in Xi’an, China. Read more in UKNow.
	Ryan Hassel 2021 Political Science senior Ryan Hassel was accepted to the Critical Language Scholarship Program to study Japanese virtually through Okayama University.
	Ellie Johnson 2021 Anthropology senior Ellie Johnson was accepted to the Critical Language Scholarship Program. She will study Mandarin Chinese virtually through Changchun Humanities and Sciences College in Changchun, China.
